Ophthalmic lubricating drops and antibiotic suspensions possess non-Newtonian rheology that causes severe dripping and nozzle crusting on high-speed 3-piece bottle lines. Vedax solved this with an advanced dosing retrofit.
1. Micro-Shutoff Needle Valve Technology
Conventional diving nozzles leave a residual droplet that falls onto the bottle neck during index transfer. Vedax deployed spring-loaded pneumatic shutoff needle tips that seal instantaneously when the dosing stroke ends.
2. Precision Ceramic Piston Pumps
To prevent seal degradation caused by abrasive ophthalmic polymers, Vedax fitted custom 99.8% alumina ceramic rotary piston pumps with 0.002 mm diametrical clearances that require zero elastomeric seals.
3. Elimination of Neck Contamination
The retrofit eliminated 100% of dropper nozzle contamination, ensuring immaculate cap sealing and airtight induction sealing without formulation residue.
